Montecarotto
A fortified town with defensive walls dating to 1509, one of the most remarkable along the Esino valley. The location offers panoramic views stretching from the Adriatic Sea to the snow-covered Apennine mountains. Multiple churches contain significant artworks, and a recently restored historic theatre occupies the central piazza. The town is renowned for Verdicchio wine production, with the Verdicchio Wine & Jazz festival held annually in early July.
Ostra Vetere
Recognizable by its distinctive skyline featuring a church tower and cupola. Formerly named Montenovo until 1882, the town sits atop ruins of ancient Roman Ostra Antica. Archaeological excavations continue at this site, located near the Misa river along an ancient Roman road connecting Sentinum and Sena Gallica.
Jesi
Birthplace of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen (1194) and composer Giovan Battista Pergolesi (1710). The town developed a reputation for jewellery making and goldsmiths, with documented goldsmith activity since 1225. Features narrow lanes connecting manors and squares. The Palazzo Pianetti art gallery houses works including Lorenzo Lotto paintings. Teatro Pergolesi opened in 1798 and underwent complete renovation in 1995.
Senigallia
A port and beach town with origins in the 4th century, containing a Roman museum documenting its importance as a crossroads settlement. Features squares, arcades, and narrow lanes. The Rocca Roveresca castle and Art Deco-style Rotonda al Mare pier merit visits. The Summer Jamboree festival features American culture, music, and fashion from the 1940s-50s.
Corinaldo
Located approximately 20 minutes away, one of the best-preserved and most charming villages in Italy. Intact fifteenth-century defensive walls provide panoramic views. Summer festivals celebrate local traditions with costumed reenactments, including a polenta fountain festival and popular Halloween celebrations.
Serra de' Conti
Situated about ten minutes away, this medieval village offers shopping and dining. Summer classical, jazz, and folk concerts occur in the San Francesco monastery courtyard. A museum documents monastic arts, crafts, and daily life. The "Notte Nera" festival in late August features installations, art exhibitions, street art, music, acrobatics, and theatrical performances.
